Yes You Can Learn To Play!

ABOUT ME

Originally from New York City, I relocated to the Bay Area in 1988 to perform at the Fairmont Hotel. I loved the Bay Area so much that I never left. I went on to lead the house band for five years, at the famed "Top of the Mark" in the Mark Hopkins Hotel, San Francisco, subsequently, appearing nightly with my quartet in the Garden Court, at the Palace Hotel. I've been performing and teaching piano professionally for over 30 years. I enjoy the balance between teaching and performing. My teaching style is relaxed, friendly and effective. I bring a depth of experience to students who are eager to expand their talents and skills playing the piano, whether just for fun or for those considering a professional career in music. I offer quality, personal, service at affordable prices. Lessons are taught via Zoom and in-person. Contact me! There's no time like now to learn how to play the piano. You'll be playing recognizable songs in a matter of weeks. It really is that fast!

Advanced Music Theory

Music Theory, arguably the least fun part of learning how to play the piano for many students, requires a teacher who is able to motivate and guide students towards success. As an experienced, passionate musician and Piano Instructor, I believe in an approach that gives students positive, constructive ways to learn. I strive to make learning music theory interesting and practical. I design my lessons according to my students’ needs, with an emphasis on confidence-boosting activities.

WHO ARE MY STUDENTS?

Kids to adults - Anyone who wants to learn to play the piano.

My students range in ages kids through adults, beginners through advanced levels.  Some have had little to no prior music training before I began teaching them. All of my students have one thing in common; a desire to play the piano.

Through my unique teaching style, my students are able to develop study habits and effective learning strategies that last, in an easy going atmosphere, with no pressure. My greatest joy is watching students progress in their playing. It is my way of giving back, for a lifetime of joy I've received playing the piano.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR LESSONS?

Currently, a 30 minute piano lessons costs $50.00, payable in advance at the beginning of each month. A discount rate is available for parents / students who prefer to pay on a quarterly bases. Rates do increase from time to time, usually on an annual basis and always with 30 days notice.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR LESSONS?

Lessons are taught in the comfort of your own home, provided that you have either a piano or weighted keyboard*.

Zoom lessons are available if you prefer, or for when you or your child is not feeling well enough for an in-person lesson.

*If you are interested in purchasing a piano or a keyboard, let me know, as I have a great relationship with DC Pianos, in Berkeley. Also, if your piano needs tuning, I can recommend a wonderful piano tuner who tunes all of my students' pianos.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

When you schedule lessons, you reserve that time slot and no one else can schedule a lesson at that time. Occasionally cancelling a lesson is necessary, due to illness or unforeseen events. When this occurs, I'll offer a make-up lesson if one is available. If I need to skip a lesson, I'll offer a make up lesson if possible, and if not, a credit will be issued for any overpayment and applied in the next month. A make-up lesson will be offered, but not a credit for lessons missed for any other resaon. No more than one make-up lesson per month is permitted.

WHAT IF WE ARE AWAY, OR ON VACATION?

If you plan on being away please let me know as soon as possible so I can make the days and time available to another student. You must schedule a minimum of five lessons between the months of July and August in order to maintain your current, preferred, spot on the calendar.

WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?

Students learn to play a variety of styles, including classical, pop and jazz. Eventually most students form a preference and gravitate towards that genre. I am a professional jazz pianist by choice, though I enjoy teaching all styles of music.
